This years Cappuccino concert brings back one of Scotland’s finest lute and guitar players: Rob MacKillop. Rob will perform an eclectic programme, including his arrangements for classical guitar of lute music from Scotland, England and Spain, as well as Romantic guitar classics. He will also perform music by James Oswald on an original ‘guittar’ from 1760. Oswald was born in Crail, rose to prominence as Chamber Composer to George III, and was the favourite composer of Robert Burns.
Advanced Pipe & Drum Workshop with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers The boys from the Red Hot Chilli Pipers are some of the best instrumentalists in their field, and will be leading a workshop for both pipers & members of the drum corps. Sheena Wellington Lunchtime Concert Sheena Wellington (not only one of Scotland’s most renowned singers, but also Fest’n’Furious creative director and global ambassador for traditional Scottish song) will be singing a varied programme of ballads and songs relevant to the city in the beautiful St Pauls Cathedral. If you can talk, you can sing!” - Zimbabwe proverb Ailie Robertson Harp Workshop Composer, arranger, teacher, improviser and harp virtuoso Ailie Robertson will be exploring the Irish dance repertoire as well as Irish slow airs for the Celtic harp. This intermediate workshop will include simple ornamentation techniques and explain how these are used differently when playing Irish music. Iain Fraser Fiddle Workshop Iain Fraser is one of Scotland’s leading fiddle players, with a repertoire ranging from 18 Century tunes to new compositions. In this intermediate level workshop he’ll be looking at personalising tunes, developing more expressive, rhythmic and tonal techniques, programming tunes to work well together and improvising. Guitar Workshop Rob MacKillop invites guitarists of all styles to an exploration of techniques, interpretation and improvisation. Non-guitarists welcome too. Rob is currently Musician In Residence at Queen Margaret University, where he runs every conceivable style of ensembles from medieval to jazz and experimental. A great opportunity to work with one of Scotland’s most consistently interesting guitarists.
