We are absolutely delighted to bring you the outstanding Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Putting a modern spin on incredible piping and astounding drumming with an emphasis on showing off and putting on a show guaranteed to amaze any audience; The Red Hot Chilli Pipers really are a genuinely unique experience.

They’ll be playing with the traditional music stars of the future, the Young Trad Tour 2007. The tour includes six finalists from BBC Radio Scotland’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award, including the overall winner, Catriona Watt. The other musicians on the TMSA Young Trad Tour 2007 are Edinburgh based fiddler, Mike Vass, Gaelic singer Darren Maclean, Glasgow based button accordionist Martin Hunter, Canadian born piper, Calum MacCrimmon and flautist Calum Stewart from Garmouth in Morayshire. Accompanists this year will be Innes Watson on guitar and Mhairi Hall on keyboard.

Wighton Collection Open Access

The Wighton Collection is a treasure trove of traditional music from Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. Containing over 700 titles, the collection includes the Orpheus Caledonius (the first ever printed volume of Scots Songs, circa 1725), the Bunting Collection of Irish music, and various works by James Oswald and Niel and Nathaniel Gow. A specialist will be on hand to guide musicians, students or interested amateurs around the collection.

Burnsong Seminar: Craft of Songwriting

Participants are invited to bring their original recorded material to be heard by a panel of experienced songwriters who will provide professional advice and guidance to those in attendance. This is a unique opportunity to receive invaluable advice while networking with other local emerging songwriting talent. Wighton Talk - Pete Shepheard

Dr Peter Shepheard is a song collector and ballad scholar of international repute. A founder of the Traditional Music & Song Association of Scotland, he now runs Springthyme Records. Here he’ll be talking about his own experiences collecting songs from the East coast over the years.
